A conference badge is a starting point
Picture a VC partner planning November in Hong Kong.
The diary is filling up. Panels. Founder meetings. Dinners. Someone suggests adding Shenzhen.
Great. But to understand what?
Another day. Photographs without purpose.
Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK runs from 2 to 6 November 2026. The main conference is on 2 and 3 November. The organiser also lists a Shenzhen Immersive Executive Tour on 4 and 5 November. Source ↗
Check what is already covered
Start by checking what that programme covers.
For the 2026 event, the organiser advertises 45,000+ participants from 120+ economies. These are organiser-stated figures, not a verified attendance count. Source ↗
Write the question your team still needs to explore.
For a VC partner, it might be: what would we need to observe to challenge our assumptions about how customers use this technology?
Different investors need different conversations
For a PE team, it might be: which parts of a Chinese product or distribution experience could be relevant to our portfolio business, and which depend on local conditions?
Those questions lead to different conversations. They also help you decide whether an extra day deserves a place in the diary.
Try this before requesting an itinerary: finish the sentence, “We want to understand ___ because our team is considering ___.”
Write a brief your team can use
Keep the answer specific enough that someone can disagree with it. “Learn about innovation” gives you little to work with. A defined customer, workflow or market question gives the day a purpose.
Futurebound Private offers independently commissioned, paid Shenzhen programmes built around a focused brief. Company conversations require individual host approval.
The aim is to return with clearer observations, stronger questions and an honest view of what remains unknown.
