Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026: Beyond the Demo in Shenzhen

Planning Shenzhen around Hong Kong FinTech Week 2026? Questions for family offices, PE and VC teams to explore beyond a robotics demo.

Give the visit a question

Imagine a family office principal planning Hong Kong FinTech Week this November.

Between meetings, a colleague shares a Shenzhen robotics video. A machine completes a task. Smooth movement. Applause. Phones recording.

The instinct is to add a visit.

First, give that visit a question.

Put the scale in context

China installed 354,000 industrial robots in 2025, accounting for 59% of global installations, according to the International Federation of Robotics’ World Robotics 2026 report. Source ↗

That scale deserves attention. It does not tell you whether a particular technology will work for your business.

For a family office with an operating business, the question might concern employees, customers or local conditions. For a VC partner, product adoption. For a PE team, a portfolio company’s workflow.

Different responsibilities deserve different conversations.

National deployment figures establish context; your own operating requirements determine which questions deserve closer attention.

Ask what happens when something goes wrong

Ask what happens when something goes wrong.

Who resets the machine? What remains manual? What must the customer change? Which parts of the experience depend on conditions your own business does not share?

Then keep three columns in your notes: what you observed, what the host stated, and what you inferred.

Compare them before dinner. Where did your interpretations diverge? What surprised you? What needs further evidence?

A strong visit gives your team better questions to investigate when you return.

Plan around the existing programme

Hong Kong FinTech Week x StartmeupHK runs from 2 to 6 November 2026. The organiser already lists a Shenzhen executive tour on 4 and 5 November. Review that programme before commissioning something separately. Source ↗
